Mathematics Methods Courses as Sites for Scholarly Inquiries

During this talk, Fran will discuss research that she is currently conducting in the context of her secondary mathematics methods course, which is designed to engage students in Cycles of Enacted Instruction (CEIs). Discussion will revolve around course activities, methods of data collection/analysis, and current/ potential scholarly inquiries.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Fran Arbaugh is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education and Curriculum & Supervision at Penn State University. Her research interests include the design and implementation of teacher development programs (both preservice and in-service) and how and what teachers learn from these programs. She is a former high school mathematics teacher, received a M.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996 and a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction (Mathematics Education) from Indiana University – Bloomington in 2000. She regularly publishes her work in research and practitioner journals and books. Dr. Arbaugh was named a William T. Kemper Fellow for Teaching Excellence at the University of Missouri (MU) in 2007, receiving one of the most prestigious teaching awards at MU. She currently serves as the Immediate Past-President of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) and just completed a term as Co-Editor of the Journal of Teacher Education.
