Whether we acknowledge it or not, bias exists in any research investigation. In this talk, we will begin with a description of a bias research project within AACR (Automated Analysis of Constructed Response). Briefly, this research project is comparing human coding with computer coding when humans are exposed to various treatments (i.e., computer codes being present while humans are coding and responses being in the order of the codes). Additionally, please read the paper (MacCoun 1998) that serves as an introduction to biases so that we can discuss it. The paper will potentially serve as a springboard to discuss potential bias of other postdoc's research and how they are minimizing the effects of these biases.
