Interdisciplinary thinking and reconciliation is integral to developing a coherent understanding of science. With multiple research groups from across the country working towards fostering interdisciplinary approach, there is a need for new assessment tools. This presentation would discuss the initial stages involved in the development of an instrument to assess interdisciplinary thinking among undergraduate students. We are currently analyzing student explanations of a set of everyday phenomena. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews and surveys. We are in the process of developing a coding scheme and rubric for analyzing the data.
