It is becoming ever clearer that new and innovative educational efforts are required to facilitate the greater creativity, flexibility, and increased learning capability needed for post-secondary education in the future. Unfortunately, rapidly rising undergraduate fees and textbook costs are serious factors impeding access to higher education for many students; many of which do not have the funds to benefits from these new advances that are often commercialized.
In this talk, Dr. Vasko will present her recent interdisciplinary work on exploring responsible innovation at the nexus of chemistry and design. She will focus on unpacking shifting notions of “responsible” and “innovation” through case-study based content analysis of trade journal advertisements for industries at this nexus. She will touch on the personal and professional dimensions, including the hows and whys, of looking at responsible innovation at the intersections of chemistry, history, design, and philosophy.
