Creating Engaging Science Environments, Mini-Conference 9/919-9/11/19

Date:

Monday, September 9, 2019 - 1:00pm to Wednesday, September 11, 2019 - 10:00am

Location:

CREATE for STEM Institute, open conference area

Please join us at the first Crafting Engaging Science Environments Mini-Conference, to be held in the CREATE for STEM suites beginning Monday, 9/9 at 1pm, and concluding on Wednesday, 9/11, at 10am. This multi-million dollar study funded by the National Science Foundation has allowed researchers, both at MSU and in Finland, to revolutionize the way that high school students learn physics and chemistry.

A holistic approach is taken to understand how students actually engage in and learn science. Project-based learning, a growth mindset and social/emotional learning have allowed students to develop scientific reasoning through practices aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. This model is scalable and sustainable.

We are excited to host this mini-conference and share news about our findings; all colleagues from the college or elsewhere at MSU are welcome to attend any part of the event over the three days. We will be discussing:

  • How NGSS and project-based learning are changing classroom instruction.
  • The value of international collaboration in science education research.
  • The challenges of implementing hands-on, project-based curriculum and activities in classrooms

and much more. Click here to see the schedule for the three-day event.
