Krajcik awarded 2020 McGraw Prize

Michigan State University and the CREATE for STEM Institute are delighted to announce that Joe Krajcik has been named as a recipient of the prestigious McGraw Prize in Pre-K-12 Education. 

Throughout his career, Krajcik has explored and advanced the use of project-based learning (PBL), a teaching and learning approach that aligns with the vision of the Framework and the NGSS. The author of a fifth edition book on PBL, Krajcik has pioneered this approach for K-12 science teaching and learning that has inspired hundreds of science teachers and thousands of students. Krajcik has led the development of several project-based learning curriculum efforts at the elementary, middle, and high school level that have been adopted by school districts throughout the country. Krajcik has collaborated with teachers from Los Angeles to New York, as well as internationally, including China, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Israel, Turkey, and Finland.

Other 2020 winners include Estela Mara Bensimon, professor of educational equity at the University of Southern California, and Michelene Chi, professor of science and teaching at Arizona State University. 

“This year’s prize winners are outstanding leaders who have devoted their careers to closing gaps and accelerating educational opportunity to all students,” said Harold McGraw III, former chairman, CEO, and president of The McGraw Hill Companies.

The McGraw Prize was established in 1988 by the Board of Directors of McGraw-Hill to honor Harold W. McGraw, Jr., the former Chairman and CEO, to honor his lifelong commitment to education, literacy, and learning. Since its creation, nearly 100 remarkable leaders in all fields of education have been recognized and celebrated, many of whom continue to play transformative roles today.
