CREATE Project featured in January Issue of NSTA Science Scope Journal

Work underway on the CREATE for STEM Institute's NSF-funded Modeling project has been featured in the January issue of Science Scope, a peer-reviewed journal for middle and junior high school teachers published by the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA).

CREATE director Joe Krajcik and research associate Tom Bielik co-authored the article, along with Dan Damelin and Cynthia McIntyre of the Concord Consortium.

The article describes the importance of helping students develop a systems approach to their investigation of phenomena. The authors describe how the SageModeler tool, developed by Concord and CREATE, allows students to design and build models of systems that can be tested and revised, key characteristics of the models scientists use to develop a deeper understanding of phenomena.
