Dr. Yael Shwartz in CREATE, October 30

Dr. Shwartz will give a presentation on “Professional Learning Communities (PLC's) – Re-conceptualizing professional development of science teachers” in the CREATE open seminar space at noon, on October 30th, from noon -1:30, including time for questions. She will present theoretic and practical aspects of moving from traditional professional development courses to professional learning communities (PLC's) and the evolving structure from hierarchical to more web-like localized and personalized ways of professional development programs.

Dr. Yael Shwartz is a researcher at the department of science teaching in the Weizmann Institute of science in Israel. Currently, she is the head of the national center for science and technology teachers, and the academic leader of the COBLE program. (Chemistry Online Blended Learning Environment). Her research interest is focused on scientific literacy, teachers' professional development, and integrating ICT into science education.
