Bob Geier is the Deputy Director and Co-Founder of the CREATE for STEM Institute at Michigan State University. The institute is jointly administered by the Colleges of Education and Natural Science at MSU and collaborates with the Colleges of Engineering and the Lyman-Briggs Residential College. CREATE serves as the research hub at Michigan State to enhance STEM education from K-16.
CREATE led the development and implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards in Michigan and nationally. It is a key developer of innovative and research-tested curricula for all educational levels, from elementary school through university undergraduate instruction. In addition to curriculum development, CREATE provides professional learning for teachers and faculty, formative and summative student learning assessments, student engagement measures, and AI tools for assessment and teacher support. The institute aims to innovate, investigate, and inform the broader educational landscape to support student success in STEM disciplines.
Bob earned a Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Michigan in August 2005. He also holds an MBA in Non-Profit/Public/Organizational Management from the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business, where he graduated magna cum laude in August 1997. Additionally, Bob has a Master of Science in Science & Math Education, with a focus on Physics, from the University of Michigan (May 1993) and a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from the College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated cum laude in May 1987.
