CREATE's Health in Our Hands team has been published in the Journal of Community Genetics, which serves as a forum for community genetics worldwide. The journal presents original research papers, reviews, short communications, case and country reports, commentaries, news, and correspondence, and is an international focal point for research in the field of community genetics, the art and science of applying medical genetics to human communities for the benefit of their individuals.

The writing team consisting of Stephen M. Modell, Irene S. Bayer, Sharon L.R. Kardia, Consuelo J. Morales, Idit Adler, and Ella Greene-Moton.

The case is made that the COVID pandemic illuminated the great need for scientific literacy and disease risks and preventions. The greatest challenge, however, is that teaching students about microscopic and molecular levels and how they interact with genetic makeup and the environment is not an easy task. Yet, these challenges can be addressed by employing the tenets of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), published in 2013 and the approach of project-based learning (PBL).

Congratulations to the entire author team!
