GALS is a free summer science program designed for high school students to engage in hands-on learning while camping and backpacking in the wilderness.
Over the course of two weeks, participants dive into topics like ecology and earth science, exploring the natural world alongside local scientists. The program aims to inspire a passion for environmental science and conservation, build leadership skills, sharpen critical thinking, and foster teamwork.
GALS was created to increase opportunities for students who identify as female or gender-nonconforming, students of color, students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and other groups historically excluded from STEM fields. However, all are welcome to apply.
Applications are open now through March 2, 2025. Contact Misty Klotz with questions at klotzmis@msu.edu.
