Dr. Namsoo Shin was an invited presenter at the prestigious ISLS/ICLS 2025 International Conference of the Learning Sciences held in Helsinki, Finland, June 10-13. 2025.
The 2025 conference theme was "Educating for world-making: Envisioning and enacting sustainable solutions to global crises", chosen to:
1. Recognize global, environmental and social crises, but also to emphasize the optimistic view for envisioning new solutions to global crises.
2. Honor teachers, students, citizens, and researchers as active transformative agents or world-makers of the future.
This year's ISLS theme invited the community to explore utopias, agency, imagination, and futures thinking as vital to education and educational research, and encouraged reflection on world-making across personal, social, and networked dimensions. The theme highlighted the learning sciences' focus on developing tools, practices, and environments that foster creative, knowledge-building learning. It emphasized engaging learners in inquiry, co-design, and collaborative innovation. The theme also advocates for research-practice partnerships that address real-world challenges and prioritize the needs of educators over purely academic concerns.
