"Colloquia With Your College" is an event where new Spartans will meet other new students in their college, the Dean, Faculty, Academic Advisers and upper-class students. This session is an essential way for new students to learn about what it takes to be successful at Michigan State University. Clare Carlson, Ph.D.

Research Associate

Clare Carlson is a post-doctoral researcher working on the Assessing Mathematical Sensemaking in Science (AMaSS) project with Dr. Kevin Haudek. She completed her dissertation work in the Chemistry department at Michigan State University, focusing on undergraduate chemistry and biology education research. Clare is fascinated by the mechanisms of student reasoning and the methods used to investigate student reasoning about complex scientific phenomena. Outside of work, she loves to play and watch soccer, eat delicious food, and spend time outdoors with her family.

Assistant Professor of Teacher Education

Cory is an assistant professor working on the Multiple Literacies project. Her research interests involve professional learning and supporting teachers as they make changes in their science teaching practices.

Dr. Stephen Meyers, University of Wisconsin-Madison, January 18, 2023

CREATE, and the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education office (APUE) are delighted to welcome Dr. Stephen Meyers from the University of Wisconsin—Madison as our Speaker Series guest for January. Stephen will be on campus from January 17 - 20, and will be available to meet with colleagues around his presentation on Wednesday, the 18th. His talk will begin at noon and wrap up by 1:30 p.m.

Dr. Jennifer Green, John Keane, and Dr. Vince Melfi will present "Fostering a Culture of Instructional Development in the Department of Statistics and Probability: Our Journey with First-Year Graduate Teaching Assistants" from 1 PM to 2:30 PM. Presentation postponed; Christie Morrison Thomas, February 22, 2023

We are deeply saddened by the events on campus on Monday, February 13, and are grieving for our community's loss of life and the senseless tragedy that took place on our beloved campus. 

Dr. Peng He and Mao-Jen Tseng's presentation scheduled for Weds, 2/15, has been postponed until further notice. 

Dr. Christie Morrison Thomas is scheduled to present her work on Weds, 2/22; at this juncture, we are planning to proceed with that event. We will update this page if anything changes. See the attached announcement for more details about her talk.

CREATE at the MSTA 70th Annual conference, March 3-4, 2023

It's time for the 70th Annual Michigan Science Teacher's Association conference! The event will be held at the Lansing Center and Radisson Hotel in downtown Lansing on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, 2023. The conference will be in person this year. 

CREATE will have six presentations at the conference that you won't want to miss:
